YouTube & Google Patent Game Technology for Web Video
Just saw this announcement on ReelSEO, and I couldn't believe it. YouTube is looking to make annotations more interactive ? Do people really like those DVD style games ? According to Google's data it doesn't look like they're picking up steam:You can read Google's patent application (and the ReelSEO article) for yourself, but here is my comment:
Most of the use cases you mention are already possible with annotations and hotspots today, so I have a feeling this patent has less to do with making interactive games and more to do with in video advertising. Check out line [0037]: "...if an object in a video is indeed recognized, then a phrase describing that product could be executed against the search index and the top search result suggested as a link for the object (e.g., searching for the title of a recognized music CD and linking to a product search page corresponding to that title). "
